Among the most “endangered” human cultures on the planet, the Karo live along the banks of the Omo River in Southern Ethiopia. Like other tribes in the area (with whom they are in a constant state of war) the Karo are famous for their body paint, elaborate butter fat and ochre hair styles, and ritual body scarification. Though they are aware of their tenuous situation, they remain distinctly happy, positive about life and welcoming of strangers.
